Hi, this is Lisa, and I’d like to get a few housekeeping items out of the way while this site is being constructed.

Purpose: First and foremost, this site is designed to be a blog for the organizers of Barcamp San Diego to share their ideas and reflections on the event. There’s links to the existing content that has been generated by the community, and I plan to have a (hopefully ajax) irc client up Real Soon Now ™.

Ownership: Yeah, Dan and I kinda “run” this site for now, but every user who registers at least has posting privileges, so don’t think this is our personal little broadcast channel. If you feel you have something to contribute to this medium, by all means do so! (Oh yeah, the person who created this theme apparently didn’t consider it important to include a link to the registration page, so use this for now: http://www.barcampsd.org/wp-register.php)

Future: This site can become a lot of things. First and foremost, there’s a lot of little things that need to be fixed…no registration link, no attribution for posts, stuff like that. It will at least expand as needed on what you see here today. I would like to see this site also become sort of a home base for event operations…think of how exciting a real-time ajax scheduling application could be, or what the possibilities are for an integrated event messaging system. But really, if anyone has ideas that make you go “man, it would be cool if barcamp did that” that some bit of hostable code could fulfill, let me know and we can get a dev team together.

So anyway, hopefully everything is covered enough for now until the website gets into shape. Happy organizing!

Barcamp SD Alpha!

Posted by Dan

Hello Everyone!

I’m please to announce that we’ve joined the ranks of organizers for Barcamp San Diego.

We’re thinking about a military theme because, well, lets face it - we’re a military town.

You can find us on irc at irc.freenode.net in #barcampsd

and our wiki page at http://www.barcamp.org/BarcampSD-1

The original wikipage is located at http://www.barcamp.org/BarcampSanDiego - We didn’t want to disturb stuff that was already in progress or stalled.

We’re still doing discovery at the moment, and basically figuring out which way is up.

Big props to the folks from barcampLA who are helping out during our discovery/planning phase!
